"Her mom, sobbing now, put her arms around Amy and hugged her hard, but Amy did not respond. In that first, horrible moment of understanding what Mom was telling her, Amy remembered her dad's last words to her, hearing his voice as clearly as if he stood beside her. 'I'm ashamed of you.'" Although this quote doesn't have to do alot with Stolen Children by Peg Kehret, in my point of view, it still made me react strongly. Stolen Children is about a 14 year old girl ,Amy, who is babysitting this little girl named Kendra for the first time. When Kendra is in her room for a nap Amy decides to go lay out on the porch with the screen door opened just a crack, but she falls asleep. She wakes up and realizes that she needs to go check on Kendra and when she does Kendra isn't there. Amy panics and runs about and rushes outside where she sees Kendra's stuffed kitty named Tubby, but not Kendra. She sprints back outside and hears a van thinking it might be Kendra's mom, it's not, two men are in the van with Kendra in the back, Amy rushes to call 911 but one of the men gets there before she does and threatens her with a gun.
But anyways, Amy was thinking about her dad, and this quote is when Amy's mom had just told her that her dad had been killed in a car crash. When I read this part I felt terrible for Amy. That morning before Amy's dad had left for work he was telling her how upset he was with her because she had forgotton to feed and let out their neighbors dog, causing the dog to wet the carpet. Amy had never even told her parents that she said she would watch their neighbors dog. Especially after she had forgotton about him, she hoped the whole thing would blow by. But after her dad found out he was very dissapointed in Amy. Amy had even said to her dad "Everyone makes mistakes. You aren't perfect either." and later her dad told her that he was ashamed of her. That was the last time Amy ever talked to her dad, and she'll never forget it because of the last horrible words they shared. Amy wishes she could take it back, but there's nothing she can do. Not only that, but because Amy's dad left late for work because he had to talk for Amy, she feels that if he hadn't had to talk to her and left on time, that this wouldn't have happened.

What makes an individual powerful?

An individual becomes powerful by getting themselves to that point. Look at me for example, how I can easily manipulate people to do what I want, I've given myself power. I can agree that some are born into leadership roles, like being king. But me? I get what I want for myself. To be powerful you have to work for it. You got to take what you want the moment you see it. I work for my power, even if I get people to do stuff for me, it's still alot of work! Do you realize how much I have to nag sometimes to get what I want? I'd consider myself a pretty powerful person. All in all, people get powerful by working for it. If you don't work to get to your high position then why should people listen to you?
